10 Awesome Things to Do in Muscat for Families

My Favourite Things to Do in Muscat with Children: An Adventure-Filled Family Guide

When my daughter was two years old, we set off on an unforgettable road trip around Oman. Our seven-day adventure was filled with family-friendly activities, cultural discoveries, and unforgettable memories.

Muscat, Oman’s capital, turned out to be the perfect starting point for our journey, blending modern attractions with rich cultural experiences.

Softplay for an hour in the mall? Sure thing. Thousand-dollar sunglasses, Bentley and Lamborghini showrooms on either side. Yep. Obvs.

Whether you’re planning a road trip or a short getaway, here’s a list of the best things to do in Muscat with children, drawing on our personal experiences and additional highlights to make your family trip even more exciting.

We loved Muscat so much we went again in 2024

  • Why it’s perfect for kids: The wide open spaces allow little explorers to roam around safely, and there’s something magical about the quiet serenity of the mosque that even young children seem to appreciate. Plus, the stunning architecture provides plenty of photo opportunities.

2. Qurum Beach: Family Fun by the Sea

We spent a few hours at Qurum Beach, just soaking in the sun and playing in the sand. It’s one of Muscat’s most popular beaches, with shallow waters perfect for little ones.

  • Why it’s perfect for kids: The soft sand and calm water make it an ideal place for toddlers to paddle and build sandcastles. There are cafes nearby where parents can relax with a cold drink while keeping an eye on the kids.

Is This The Best Thing To Do In Muscat For Families With Young Children And Toddlers?

Why Marahland Is the Theme Park You Didn’t Know You Needed (Until Now)

So, you’ve made it to Muscat and you’re wondering: “What’s the best way to entertain my kids while keeping my sanity intact?” Well, here’s the answer, Marahland.

A place where thrill rides, cartoon mascots, and a smattering of slightly terrifying attractions come together to give you a day that your family will never forget… or at least be talking about for the next decade.

1. The “Wild” Rides (AKA The Moment You Realise You Might Be Too Old for This)

Let’s be real. You’ll get on the Pirate Ship and think, “This is just a gentle swing, right?” But then, halfway through your third swing, your stomach will start playing games with you, and you’ll begin questioning life choices. Meanwhile, your child, who’s clearly made of stronger stuff (or possibly just hasn’t developed an ounce of fear yet), will be waving enthusiastically, clearly enjoying the thrill. At the same time, you clutch the side railing, hoping this ship doesn’t take you to the other side of the world.

Pro Tip: Hold on tight, and scream like you mean it. It’ll either be a thrilling experience or the beginning of an existential crisis.

2. The Ferris Wheel (Or How to See Muscat From a Really High Place)

If you’re looking to get a “bird’s eye view” of the city, the Ferris Wheel is your friend. However, before you step into that gondola, you should know one thing: It’s not just a Ferris wheel—it’s a test of how much you trust humanity. The gondola slowly rises, and while the view is beautiful, your mind starts racing: “What if this thing stops halfway up? What do I do if we get stuck up here? Do I scream for help, or do I try to look chill and calm like I’m a parent who’s totally in control?” Spoiler: you’ll likely do neither, and your child will be happily pointing out all the places they plan to visit next. They’ve got zero fear.

3. The Bumper Cars (AKA The Only Place Where You’re Allowed to Yell “Watch Out!”)

If there’s one thing your kids are going to love, it’s the Bumper Cars. There’s something deeply satisfying about ramming into someone else’s car, especially when you’ve been holding it together all day. Let’s be honest, you’ve spent hours navigating the tantrums, snack breaks, and (let’s not forget) the 45th “Can we go on the ride AGAIN?!” But now? NOW is your time to shine! Hop into a bumper car and unleash your inner road rage (while smiling, of course) as you bump your kid into oblivion. It’s only a slight exaggeration to say it might be the most satisfying part of the day.

4. The Mascots (Or That Moment You Realise You’re Terrified of Giant Animals)

Ever thought you’d get a hug from a giant giraffe or a dancing cartoon character? Marahland brings this dream to life—and then, it might haunt you for a while. Nothing screams “childhood joy” like having a character in a giant fuzzy suit try to give you a hug. At the same time, you nervously step back, questioning if the suit is actually alive or just hiding someone who’s secretly plotting your downfall. On the plus side, the kids love it, so if you’re going to survive this, follow their lead and smile through it.

5. The Kiddie Rides (Where You Feel Like a Helicopter Parent, But It’s Worth It)

If you’ve got a toddler in tow, don’t worry—Marahland has something for the under-5 crowd, too. The kiddie rides are adorable, and as you watch your child’s face light up as they go around in little cars, planes, and trains, you’ll realise something: They’re having the time of their life, while you’re busy following them around the track, waving like a proud, slightly over-enthusiastic parent.

But let’s be real—when your toddler waves at you with that much joy, it’s totally worth the awkward circle-following and the question “Why are we doing this for the third time?” Answer: Because it makes them happy. And, okay, maybe it’s a good excuse for a photo op.

Final Verdict: Is Marahland Worth the Visit?

In short—YES. If you’re in Muscat with the family, Marahland is a must-visit. It’s like a rollercoaster ride through childhood memories mixed with a dash of hilarity. From the terrifying-but-amazing Pirate Ship ride to the odd, yet lovable, mascot encounters, it’s a place where your kids will have a blast, and you’ll find yourself reminiscing about the good ol’ days of theme parks and thrill rides…while silently praying the Ferris wheel doesn’t stop on the way down.

So, pack some sunscreen, bring your sense of humour, and get ready for a day full of screams, laughter, and—let’s face it—plenty of awkward mascot hugs. Marahland: Where even the adults have a good time… eventually.
