Manali to Leh Cycling Tour

Embarking on an 11 Day Manali to Leh cycling tour is a transformative journey that challenges both the body and spirit. In 2021, I undertook this adventure, documenting the experience in detail here on my adventure travel and bicycle touring blog.

Having successfully completed the route I wanted to share my comprehensive guide to assist fellow cyclists in preparing for this epic Himalayan bicycle expedition with the option to tackle it as a self guided or guided bicycle tour.

Manali to Leh Cycle Trip Overview

This epic Himalayan cycling expedition is renowned for its challenging terrain, iconic mountain passes, and breathtaking landscapes. Cyclists traverse several significant high altitude passes along the Manali to Leh Highway.

High Altitude Passes on the Manali to Leh Highway

  • Rohtang Pass (3,980 meters)
  • Baralacha La (4,890 meters)
  • Nakee La (4,740 meters)
  • Lachulung La (5,059 meters)
  • Tanglang La (5,328 meters)

Each pass presents unique challenges and rewards, from the 21 hairpin bends of the Gata Loops to the expansive More Plains, one of the highest and coldest deserts globally.

When I made my Manali to Leh bike trip, I actually stared in Chandigarh. It was the tailend of the pandemic and I felt the call to make a big bicycle adventure. I took a sleeper train from Madgoan in Goa with a second hand mountain bike I found on OLX.
